Located on the 4th floor of the Sejong Library near the government complex buildings, Hosu Maru (호수마루) not only has the best view in town, but also the best salad.  We recommend grabbing a table along the lakeside, so you can look out at the Lake Park while enjoying pasta, pilaf, or salad and perhaps sipping a glass of wine.

Hands down, Hosu Maru  (호수마루) has the best salad in Sejong. I’ve been searching for this salad for the last year and a half. A good salad in Korea is hard to find, and even harder to find outside big cities, but the first time I tried the Pork Steak Salad (목살스테이크 샐러드) I couldn’t stop exclaiming how amazing it was.

The Pork Steak Salad (목살스테이크 샐러드) uses light leafy mixed greens, as opposed to iceberg or romaine lettuce, and is topped with a creamy, tangy, yogurt flavored dressing which isn’t too overpowering or too watery. It comes with several whole pork steaks, which you have to slice yourself. All the salads have the same base and you can switch out the side of meat for chicken, hamburger steak, or smoked salmon. The salads are quite big and are best shared between two people or among a table. We also recommend the carbonara, which is lighter and not as creamy as other Korean pastas.

You can order wine by the bottle or by the glass. The house wine, which is above average for a standard Korean house wine, is a quality, semi-sweet red wine.

It’s easy to come to Hosu Maru (호수마루) with a large group, even up to 10 people. The interior of Hosu Maru (호수마루) is spacious, although the long tables and fluorescent lighting makes it feel a little cafeteria-esque. However, if you come at sunset, you can enjoy the golden light that streams in through the glass walls which let you have an unobstructed view of the lake. As you sit through your meal, feel the pull of the lake calling you to come take a stroll outside to walk off your meal. The huge body of water really has a calming effect, so a lakeside walk is a highly recommended post-meal ritual.
